Information Item

Hello,

I am trying to create a link to external items like DOCs, PDF and external Links in the dashboard view usiong a text box. Is it possible to create a link for the object and it opens in the same window? I cannot get information items to work. Nothing happens when I click on the text box although its linked to the information item.

Hello,

The easiest way to create a dashboard link to external documents is to use the custom url option. In the symbol layout window, open properties for some item (such as text box), and from the link tab select "Custom URL" and enter the desired url.

With text box items, you will want to select "show background" from the shape tab, as the link is only functional for the visible parts of the item, so if the background is not shown, the only visible part would be the text (if any) of the text box and the border rectangle (if that is set as visible).

Thank you for the reply,I have tried but no luck it just opens a blank white page.

Also just wondering if there is a way to make the background colors transparent so that the background can still be seen?

Also the text size and font is not consistent between the designer and portal, and also different on tablets. is there a way to control that?

I have not come across this issue with a white blank page opening before. It's best if you contact our customer care (customercare@qpr.com), as they might already know a solution or workaround for it.

The partial transparency is unfortunately not currently available for text boxes in dashboard views. As for the text size, the views are by default displayed in the Portal using a scalable technology (Scalable Vector Graphics), which allows e.g., unlimited zooming, but also leads into some discepancies in appearence compared to the designer. There is an option to also draw the texts and graphs in the Portal graphical views using the identical technology as the one used in the designer, ensuring that the visual appearance matches. This can be enabled by setting UseBitmapTextInGraphicalViews=1 under [SCP Settings] section of QPR_Servers.ini file that is typically located under ProgramData\QPR Software\QPR 2017\2017.1\Servers\Settings on the server machine. QPR servers should be stopped before editing the file. You can find more information on this setting on the Appendix A of the QPR Administrator's Guide.
